Stowmarket Town turned up the heat on Ridgeons League First Division leaders Cambridge University Press with a gutsy 1-0 win at The Cass Centre. Steve Jay’s men have been in fantastic form this season with just two defeats in 16 league games. The win for the Gold and Blacks moves them to within four points of Cambridge University Press with three games in-hand due to the freezing weather over the festive period.
These are exciting times for the Mid Suffolk outfit who are finally starting to reach their potential under former Hadleigh United boss Steve Jay – a manager who knows exactly what it takes to get out of this division.
A fine mix of homegrown talent and Ridgeons League experience has proven to be the ideal mix and Town added to that squad further last week with the capture of FC Clacton defender Andy Taylor. The long-serving Clacton stopper lives locally in the Stowmarket area and will be yet another good role model for the youngsters coming through from the Under 18′s and Reserves.
Stowmarket are battling on two fronts at present with a Ridgeons League Cup Quarter final at home to Team Bury on the horizon this Tuesday. A win over their near neighbours would see Jay’s men into their first cup semi final in more than a decade.
